Liveaboard with Manta Dive Phuket

A liveaboard in Thailand is an unforgettable experience, especially for those who love diving, exploring remote islands, or simply soaking in the natural beauty of the country’s crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life. Liveaboard trips involve staying on a boat for an extended period, typically for 3-7 days, allowing guests to dive or snorkel at multiple locations without returning to land.

Popular Destinations:

  • Similan Islands: Known for its crystal-clear water and diverse underwater life, the Similan Islands are often considered one of the best diving spots in the world. The Similans are famous for their dramatic underwater landscapes, including vibrant coral reefs, large schools of fish, manta rays, and even whale sharks.
  • Surin Islands: These islands are known for their untouched beauty, with stunning coral reefs and an abundance of marine life. The area is also a prime spot for diving with manta rays and other large ocean creatures.
  • Richelieu Rock: A renowned diving site in Thailand, Richelieu Rock is famous for its clear waters and sightings of large creatures such as whale sharks and barracudas.
  • Phuket and Koh Phi Phi: These areas offer not only spectacular diving opportunities but also beautiful beaches and snorkeling sites.

Types of Liveaboard Trips:

  • Diving Liveaboards: These trips cater to divers of all levels, from beginners to experienced professionals. They are typically organized with dive instructors and divemasters on board to guide guests to the best dive sites.
  • Snorkeling Liveaboards: For those who prefer snorkeling, some liveaboards offer trips that focus on accessible reefs and clear lagoons, allowing guests to explore without the need for diving certifications.
  • Luxury Liveaboards: These high-end boats come with top-notch amenities, including private cabins, gourmet dining, spa services, and more. These are ideal for those who want to combine adventure with luxury.
  • The Experience:

    • Onboard Comfort: Depending on the type of boat, liveaboards vary in terms of comfort. Budget options may offer shared rooms and basic facilities, while luxury boats offer en-suite bathrooms, comfortable lounges, and spacious sun decks.
    • Itineraries: Liveaboard trips generally have well-planned itineraries, taking guests to several dive sites or snorkeling spots throughout the trip. Daily dive or snorkel excursions are typically scheduled, followed by plenty of time to relax on deck, enjoy the surroundings, or take part in other activities like kayaking.
    • Gastronomy: Meals are typically provided on board, often featuring a mix of local Thai and international dishes. Some liveaboards even provide custom menus for guests with dietary restrictions or preferences.

Best Time to Go: The best time for a liveaboard trip in Thailand is from November to April, when the weather is generally dry and the seas are calm. The monsoon season (May to October) can bring rougher seas and more limited visibility, but it is still possible to go on liveaboard trips with careful planning.

Advantages:

  • Unmatched Access: Liveaboards give you the chance to access some of the most remote and pristine diving locations, far from the crowded beaches.
  • Convenience: With everything on board, guests can spend more time exploring and less time traveling. This is ideal for those who want to maximize their time underwater.
  • Community: Liveaboards bring together like-minded travelers, often creating a strong sense of camaraderie among guests. It’s a great way to meet new people who share your passion for the ocean.

A liveaboard trip in Thailand is a unique and thrilling way to experience the country’s stunning marine environment, offering opportunities for adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable underwater encounters. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or a first-time snorkeler, there’s something for everyone in the waters around Thailand.

FAQ's

Phuket offers an exceptional diving experience for all levels, supervised by our experienced guides. Explore the best sites around Phuket, including Racha and Phi Phi Islands. An unforgettable underwater adventure awaits you.

What is the best period to come?

The Similan cruise season begins in mid-October until May, we find the best time to come during this period is from mid-February to April, in order to have the best chance of seeing manta rays and sharks whale and avoid the crowds of mid-December and February. Some like the start of the season in November because the dive sites have not been visited for 5 months, the marine life has increased in number and seems less shy to divers. The busiest time of year is Christmas and New Year, as reservations must be made in advance.

Where the liveaboards depart from?

Most cruises are based in Khaolak for its proximity to Similan. Organized transfers around Phuket have an additional charge and those from Khaolak are free by most boat operators. Some even go to Phuket airport.

Foods, Allergies and Special Diets

All cruises have a chef on board and food is prepared daily, so you can request during your booking a special diet, or if you have any food allergies, a special set will be prepared for you at each meal.

What is the minimum level required for diving?

We generally require an Advanced Adventurer or any Level 2 from another organization to book a cruise. Open Water Divers (Level 1) can book a trip but are required to do the deep dive training first, before the trip or on the first day of travel. As most dive sites are deeper than 20m, you must be certified for this depth. Divers with less than 30 dives who cannot show a logged dive in the last 12 months are required to do a Refresher dive first with an instructor.
